Film: The Creative High

Play Video

The Creative High is an award-winning documentary featuring nine artists in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction who are transformed by creativity in their search for identity and freedom. Their stories reveal how art has been a ballast while confronting old addictive habits and finding a portal into the aliveness and spiritual connection of art-making. From a unique San Francisco perspective, showcasing dancers, musicians and visual artists, The Creative High is a testament to the chaotic and passionate nature of creativity. Adriana directed the film in collaboration with producer Dianne Griffin, accompanied by an expert San Francisco Bay Area film team. “One needn’t be in recovery or an artist to experience the transformative power of art. The Creative High taps into our basic, profound impulses to reveal, rage, let go, vent, invent and reinvent. That is, to create and express.”

— Michael Fox, Journalist, Film Critic, KQED

The Creative High is a moving testimony to the power of healing through art, authenticity, and connection. These stories help counter the romantic notion that one 'has to suffer to be creative' and illustrates instead that it is the transformation of suffering into art that is truly creative.”

Film: When The Fall Comes

When the Fall Comes was initiated by Adriana in response to her struggle with grief after the loss of her husband in June of 2007. She documented dreams, memories and created poetry about her experiences for over five years, which then culminated into the performance of the same name, When the Fall Comes.

By teaming up with a film crew that included filmmakers Wyatt Roy and Michael Brandt and composer David Boman, Adriana was able to craft a film that brings us into a compelling story of loss and renewal. In addition to the strong imagery of When the Fall Comes, a tapestry of dialogue inquires into the nature of grief and directly shows us how art can be an alternate source of healing. When the Fall Comes is a vulnerable and brave investigation into how one overcomes tragedy. Adriana Marchione courageously leads through example: reliving and retelling the story behind the death of her husband through the arts. This is a documentary that is worth tackling – one that will leave you believing in the healing power of the expression of gratitude no matter what the circumstance.”

– Jeff Galfer, Actor and Producer

“Can art heal grief? Take note in this beautifully crafted film-a poem in itself-woven together with interviews, metaphorical imagery, and performance. One experiences not only the sense of grief and longing, but the sense of healing rooted in the creative process. A testament to the power of healing through art.”
